Based in Los Angeles, Mauro Flores, Jr. is originally from the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. Ever since moving out of Texas, Mauro has worked as a high school theater teacher, a transcriber, a book store assistant, a minute taker, a production assistant, a writer's assistant, an English tutor, and a Story Producer but the one constant in his life has been art. Although self-taught, he’s been drawing and sketching ever since he could lift a pencil. It’s a habit that prompted many parent/teacher conferences as a kid, and still gets him in trouble at work as an adult. But it has remained a passion, and his interest in art has ranged from comic books, art nouveau, the modernists, postmodernists and current artists such as Jane French and William Rochfort. And when work has been lean, he’s turned to art to make ends meet, and in those times he’s used a variety of mediums to produce work for comic books and children’s books, and to create props and illustrations for theater, TV and film.  But ever since the pandemic, he’s leaned heavily into his art and discovered a passion for oil painting that helped him cope with the ever-changing times and personal tragedies. And as his oil painting and ink work continues to develop and grow, he’s found a proclivity in the nostalgic, the haunting beauty of abandoned objects, the emotional impact of portraiture and pop culture, and the nuances of Latinidad.
